Q. What is India Day Parade?

A.  India Day Parade is a first time event planned by the Indian American community of Greater Lehigh Valley. This event not only celebrates India's Independence Day, but enhances it with a cultural display. 

 Q. When and where is this event celebrated?

A. This event will be celebrated in Allentown PA on Saturday, 8/15/09 from Noon until 4 PM.

Q. What does India Day Parade involve?

A. India Day Parade will start with a flag raising ceremony. This is followed by procession of people dressed up in ethnic outfits will walk with floats, street performers and marching bands towards a local park. The event will end with a cultural program. There will be food, sponsor and display stalls along with music.

Q. Where will the parade start?

A. The parade will start at Allentown City Hall, 435 Hamilton Street Allentown, PA 18101.

Q. Where will the cultural program be held?

A. Allentown Arts Park 510 W Linden St Allentown PA 18101

Q. Who is organizing it?

 A. The parade is being organized by many non profit organizations like The Indian American Association of Lehigh Valley, Anoopam Mission, Hindu Temple Society, many smaller regional groups and lots of individuals belonging to the Indian American community of Greater Lehigh Valley.

Q. What's the purpose of this event?

A. This is to showcase the Indian American culture.

Q. What is the theme of the event?

A. The Themes are “ Freedom, Unity, Diversity, Harmony”.

Q. Who can participate in the event?

A. Anyone who wants to be part of the event or promote the Indian American culture is welcome to participate. All activities should fall under the theme guidelines.

Q. Is there any participation fee?

A. No

Q. How do I get involved in the event?

A.  You may send an email to indiaparade@iaalv.org. Mention your interest, whether you want to just walk in the parade or participate on a float, street program, stage program, stall, sponsor or donate to the event and some one will contact you. Please mention your phone number and a convenient time to call.

Q. How do I get a stall (Example: Food/Culture/Business) during the program?

Q. How can I offer my own food stall during the program?

A. In order to have a food stall if you have a food license from FDA. Selling food by non licensed vendors is not permitted under city regulations.

Q. How can I contribute to the event?

A. You can be a volunteer on the various committees, participate in street or stage programs, enter a ‘Float’ or have a stall that displays any aspect of the parade theme.

Q. How is this event being funded?

A. The event is being funded thru donations from the community. Individual contributions may be sent to India Day Parade P.O. Box 3575 Allentown PA 18106. A receipt will be provided for tax purpose.

Q. Can I advertise or sponsor the event?

A. Yes, a variety of corporate, small business, individual family sponsorship opportunities are available.

Q. What kind of food will be available?

A. There will be a variety of  food (Veg & Non-Veg Indian and Traditonal)available for sale.

Q. Where can I park my vehicle?

A. Free parking is available. See Maps in the home page.

Q. If I want to take the bus, is there bus service?

A. Yes, there is a LANTA bus terminal within a block.

Q. Is there child care available?

A. No

Q. Will there be Restrooms available?

A. Yes, there will be portable potties available.

 

Q. Will there be any India flags available?

A. Flags will be available for free until supplies last.

Q. What volunteering opportunities are available?

Q. Is there a ‘Rain date’?

A. No. Event will be held on this date/time.
