Rules of Contest

The contest is open to two grade groups. The junior group will consist of childr en attending grades 7 and below. The senior group will consist of children atten ding grades 8 through 12.

  1. Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are only for the senior group. Questions n ot marked can be asked of either group.
  2. Contestants in each group will be called upon to answer in a random order. When asked a question, the contestant will have to provide an answer in 30 seconds. I f no answer is forthcoming or if a wrong answer is given (ONLY ONE ANSWER IS ALL OWED), the contestant is given a negative mark. Three such negative marks will e liminate the contestant from the competition.
  3. The end of the thirty second interval will be indicated by an audible alarm moni tored by the timekeeper.
  4. The quizmaster will oversee the conduct of the quiz. A panel of three judges wil l decide if a given answer is correct or incorrect.. Only the contestant being a sked the question may signify a "protest" by raising their hand if he/ she is dissatisfied with the judges' verdict. In that case, the matter will be r esolved by the quizmaster before proceeding with the contest. The decision of th e quizmaster is final.
  5. A recordkeeper will keep a record of all questions asked during the competition.
  6. The audience and the rest of the participants are requested to keep silent durin g the entire proceeding.
  7. A student in grades 7 and below can compete in the senior group; if so, he/she c annot compete in the junior group. A student in grade 8 through 12 cannot partic ipate in a junior group.
  8. If there are any inconsistencies/errors in this booklet, a student/parent may br ing this to the attention of the quizmaster so that it may be corrected in the n ext edition. However, answers provided in this booklet prevail and are counted a s correct during the quiz contest.
  9. There will be first, second and third prize winners irrespective of the number o f participants.
